Walk the walk and talk the talk
If you want to walk the casino walk, then you need to talk the casino talk. As with many industries and cultures there’s a certain amount of technical language present in the casino world and if you don’t know what someone is saying, you might be in danger of losing your money.
Indeed, from the blackjack table to the roulette wheel, every gaming table will contain some unfamiliar language for the casual gambler. To overcome this you need to do some research and learn your stuff, just as you would with any other strategic consideration in the gambling world.
In this article we’ll out three of gambling terms you should make yourself familiar with.
Cracking the Nut – For professional betting gamblers their “monthly nut” is the amount of money they spend on gambling, expenses and general living costs. This is essentially their bottom line and once a player meets this minimum they are said to have cracked their monthly nut. This is the aim of every serious gambler as it means that anything over this amount is pure profit.
Hot or Cold – Both a player and a game can be classed as hot or cold and it refers to how lucky they are at the time. If a certain player is winning every hand then they are said to be running hot. In contrast, if they are consistently feeling the wrath of bad luck then they are cold. Whether a person runs hot or cold is a matter of mystery and something that can change at any time.
Drop Box – This is the place where money or casino chips are stored. This is located directly in front of the dealer and is the source of wealth or woe for casino players, as it’s where their winnings comes from or their losses go.
